A PLATFORM FOR JOY
This project is a response to a Network Rail brief from the RSA Student Design Awards called a Platform for Joy. The brief set the question, “How might we unlock joy for people at train stations?”, using designer Ingrid Fetell Lee’s research on the “Aesthetics of Joy”. This design aimed to transform a small local station platform, using a pastel colour palette of turquoise, pink and yellow. Inspired by the train rides through British countryside, the seating on the platform evokes a train carriage, using booth benches under a domed pergola set against a wall of train windows. The windows use a semi-transparent vinyl print of different landscapes and sights, anchored by a bridge in the centre.
